I had the pleasure of shooting the Krupa Family Maternity session recently. Since this session, Candice has welcomed her second baby girl to the world; no doubt a sweet baby girl, who I will have the pleasure of photographing this weekend.
When approaching a session, I like to mentally prepare myself for the shots I’d like to take, and where. Knowing that we’d have a toddler included in this session, and that the temperatures weren’t particularly warm (that’s our reality in Alaska!) I was particularly glad to have the downtown studio location to fall back on. For that reason I picked the Chena River to shoot at. The sweet big sister in the session wasn’t feeling so good, so I turned this into a hybrid session, shooting the second half in-studio. It worked out quite well. After our littlest participant warmed up inside, she was absolutely ready to show some love to Mama Candice for the camera.
Maternity sessions are high on the list of my favorite milestones to document. They are the fleeting moments before a family literally brings new life home, forever changing the family dynamic. An invite into a client’s home for a newborn session is the ultimate honor, so I’m truly proud to be chosen as a part of this special time for the Krupa family.
